About Therapy

“Only when we’re brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

- Brene Brown

The most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic relationship, which is why I provide a warm and non-judgemental space for you to feel truly heard and understood

Everybody experiences times in their life when things feel too overwhelming and difficult to navigate by themselves. Therapy can provide support, clarity and encouragement during challenging times and can help us to enact and experience positive changes.

I understand how difficult it is to face these feelings alone but also how daunting it is to reach out for help, especially if you’ve never tried therapy before. However, it’s my aim for it to quickly become a place where you feel safe, supported and encouraged.

In my counselling practice I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions. Together we will work towards awareness and clarity around the difficulties you are facing and how you would like things to change.

I work with people to help them manage difficulties in their life relating to themselves and their relationships. With compassion and curiosity, I will provide you with the time and space to be heard and understood, to share things that you can’t share with friends or family, perhaps things you’ve never shared with anyone.

I am experienced in helping clients in the following areas:

  • Anxiety & panic attacks

  • Depression & low mood

  • Postpartum depression

  • Imposter syndrome

  • Attachment issues with dating

    and in relationships

  • ADHD symptoms

  • Low confidence & self-esteem

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Sexual trauma & PTSD

  • Grief & loss

  • Issues at work

  • Relationship problems & breakups

  • Lack of direction & purpose

  • Stress & burnout

  • Identity confusion

  • Intrusive thoughts

  • Trauma Symptoms

  • Family issues & conflict

My Approach

My way of working mixes traditional humanistic psychotherapeutic theories with current, evidence-based techniques into an approach that feels relatable, down to earth and compassionate.

  • My work is trauma-informed, which means I’m never sitting across from my clients thinking “What is wrong with you?” but instead I’m thinking about the survival strategies they have adopted to keep them safe in response to what has happened in their life.

  • I believe in the importance of healthy connection with ourselves and others as a way to achieve satisfaction and meaning in our lives. Exploring ourselves and our relationships can enable us to build a stronger sense of self that helps us to experience life more fully.

  • I aim to help people feel whole by supporting them to integrate the emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual aspects of themselves. By working together in the present I can help you to develop self-awareness and an understanding of how your experiences have shaped you. Before this can happen you must feel safe and comfortable enough to share your thoughts and feelings with me. Trust is such an important element of any counselling relationship, which is why I always work towards you feeling accepted and understood.

  • I draw on elements of neuroscience, humanistic psychotherapy, mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and body based/somatic psychotherapy.

  • I will attend to what’s happening in your thoughts, feelings and body and draw on a range of effective techniques, tailored to you.

My Training and Experience

  • I am a fully-qualified trauma-informed integrative therapist, MBACP.

  • I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

  • I hold a diploma in Humanistic integrative counselling.

  • I adhere to the strict ethical and professional codes of the BACP and fulfil their requirements for ongoing supervision and continued professional development.

  • In addition to my private practice, I work as a counsellor at STARS, a Dorset-based charity, where I work with people who are experiencing symptoms of sexual trauma and domestic abuse.

  • Since qualification I continue to develop my knowledge and understanding in a number of supportive areas including: neuroscience, neuroplasticity, mental health, meditation, mindfulness, movement, relaxation techniques and the importance of sleep.
